The Faces of Education Episode 12

Meet the awesome educators at Hudson! We'll be featuring 1 teacher a day with our fast-five questions. If you see them in the hall, say hi. Now you know a little more about each other!

MEET LEIA PETTY

What do you teach and/or do at Hudson?

I am a guidance counselor for the 11th and 12th grade. I also facilitate restorative justice practices at Hudson aka The Justice League!

Why education?

I believe education is a human right. Schools are one of the last truly public institutions where everyone (regardless of immigration status, economic status, race and ethnicity) has a RIGHT to access them. I believe this has to be protected and deepened so that public education is a space where education and liberation live side by side. Also, I think teenagers are super awesome!

Why Hudson?

I believe that our school doesn't fear change. In fact, we believe in it!

Impressions of the Hudson staff?

I've never worked with such a crew of talented, hard working and intelligent people. I feel supported and challenged every day.

Hope for the year?

I hope that restorative practices can expand into more advisories and classrooms. I want this years's graduating class to be BIG and that they leave with a sense of self-worth and possibility.
