DROWN OUT THE CACOPHONY OF HATE WITH THE MUSIC OF LOVE!
MESSIAH by Handel
TIME: Sunday, December 20th, 3:00 PM
PLACE: All Souls Unitarian Church, Sanctuary
1157 Lexington Avenue (at East 80th Street, Manhattan)this is a musical, not religious performance.
We invite you to join your voice with hundreds of other New Yorkers in performing Handel's Messiah.
Handel's great work, originally performed in 1741, was composed to benefit the Foundling Hospital where unwed mothers and their children were cared for, and to contribute to alleviating the debts of prisoners. The music celebrates the divine spark of immortality in every human being. It is thus the perfect answer to the "cultural policy of murder" now seeming to be sweeping across our nation, and the world. The joy of great art always triumphs over death--especially when wielded by what Martin Luther King called "the beloved community" . Dr. King commented in his book Strength To Love: “as great as are the stars of the heavens, as great as is the music of Handel's Messiah, how much greater is the mind of man that contemplates these things!”
Join us in celebrating Handel's Messiah and its musical demonstration of the power of humanity to elevate itself through Love.
