Activist Kleaver Cruz Visit Hudson!
Laura Schenke and Sarah Katz helped bring The Future Project's Kleaver Cruz to Hudson yesterday! He actually came for 3 days in a row to meet with all Mentoring Groups, in small-class settings, for the We the Change program. Cruz spoke of his work in the Black Lives Matter movement, and about how activism has become his calling. The students were moved by stories of his experiences and his philosophy that activism can take many forms — like poetry, art, protest or even simple conversations and listening to one another. He took the time to discuss and support the students' mini-social change proposals they're writing in order to prepare for the Big Idea Project next cycle. Michelle Fitzgerald said, "You've moved me. You've opened mind. My Big Idea Project is going to be good." Nicole Rodriguez said, "In less than an hour, you've opened my mind and changed my thoughts." Amazing.
Sincere thanks to Laura and Sarah for their work in making this happen, and to the Senior Team for continuing to find ways to make education and the outside world more seamless.
