I’m hosting an 8 session training and support group for education professionals and practitioners working in all roles in educational settings. This training will expand participants’ ability to bring energy, creativity, and joy into their work. The group uses a mixture of (some) theory and (mostly) experience to study and understand how feelings and relationships impact learning in classrooms, staff meetings, advisory groups, restorative circles, crews, counseling groups, and other group settings at school.
Learning takes place through the presentation of workrelated case material and exploration of the dynamic group process that unfolds. Participants are invited to explore their hereandnow responses in the group and, in this way, the experience itself becomes our primary “text” that guides the emergent curriculum.
Concepts in social emotional learning and group theory are included in each session. Participants’ needs and interests will guide the selection of readings.
Recognize ways to manage uncomfortable feelings while leading groups at school
Understand how a group frame is utilized to cultivate cooperation instead of compliance
Resolve emotional blocks to learning
Develop techniques for increasing talking in place of acting out behavior
Identify methods to integrate the group leaders’ emotions as critical data points school settings

David began his career in NYC public schools teaching middle and high school science. He is a graduate of the Center for Group Studies, where he learned a psychodynamic approach to group leadership. He is the Instructional Specialist for Social Emotional Learning at New Visions Charter High Schools. David holds a master’s degree in childhood education from Pace University, a certificate in STEM education from Teachers College, and is currently a psychoanalyst in training at the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies. He leads numerous ongoing training and consultation groups for educators and presents regularly at national and international psychotherapy and education conferences.
